There are certain traits that all good proofreaders have: an eye for detail, a love of words, patience, conscientiousness and a drive to eliminate those awful, unnecessary errors!
I have these traits, as well as an excellent education to post-graduate level (in the UK - I am British and now resident in New Zealand) and a wealth of proofreading experience accumulated from my first career in publishing and my second career as an Occupational Psychologist.
Examples of the documents I have proofread over the years include magazine articles, manuals, websites, newsletters, psychology theses, travel books and brochures, CVs and applications, business proposals and presentations.
"To free a person from error is to give and not to take away"
Arthur Schopenhauer
